It doesn't matter how long it takes you, as long as you keep moving FORWARDS. |

efore you do something, ask yourself if you’re about to take a FORWARD STEP or a BACKWARD STEP.
Ask yourself, ‘Does this decision line up with my goals?’
It's the everyday choices we make that determine whether we move FORWARD or BACKWARDS.
“Your decisions must be congruent with your goals! Do your decisions match up with your goals?” – Eric Thomas (TGIM video)
If you find yourself taking too many backward steps, you’re never going to get to where you want to be!
You’re never going to reach the finish line walking backwards. Stop looking back, living in the past, and dwelling on what should already be behind you!
Let me clarify one thing… everyone makes mistakes. Making mistakes, failing, or making poor decisions are NOT backward steps UNTIL you keep doing them over and over without ever putting in the effort to correct them. Downfalls are NOT backward steps. In fact, they are part of the process.
What defines a backward step is when you deliberately make the decision to succumb to laziness.
When you deliberately put your dreams on hold.
It’s a decision you could have prevented, yet you continued to settle for mediocrity.
I’m not talking about big decisions. It’s the teensy daily choices which really add up.
For example… instead of taking ONE MORE STEP towards your goals,
you say:
‘yes’ to scrolling through your feed for hours
‘yes’ to watching another hour of videos
‘yes’ to checking your phone when you should be in bed
‘yes’ to not making time for family or friends
‘yes’ to sleeping in
‘yes’ to unhealthy habits
‘yes’ to sitting on your phone when you should be walking your dog
‘yes’ to sitting on your phone when you should be moving your body
‘yes’ to sitting on your phone when you should be studying
‘yes’ to sitting on your phone when you should be investing in your mind
and ‘no’ to your dreams.
How could you sabotage yourself like that?
Imagine… all that time could have been spent taking FORWARDS steps.
Don’t get me wrong. It’s okay to take breaks and be chilled. In fact, relaxing is important. But when you let it consume your day, that’s when you start taking those backward steps.
Play-time is important but it doesn’t have to be your No.1 concern.
DOWN-TIME is a necessity but GRIND-TIME is the priority.
So unless ‘sitting on your phone for hours’ is in line with your goals, stop deliberately taking more and more backward steps! It only makes the finish line more out of reach.
Everyone else is taking forwards steps. Don’t be the only one taking backward steps. Don’t let yourself fall behind to the back of the crowd. You’ve worked so hard to get here!
“Always be one step ahead, and if you can, be leaps and bounds ahead!” – Young and Unheroic
You might not be the most talented or the most skilled but if you have a gruelling work ethic and work twice as hard as everyone else, then you’ll stay ahead.
Take it step by step. Making those good, small choices each day that line up with your goals will keep you forwards-bound, no matter how many obstacles get in your way.
Keep taking those FORWARDS steps and one day, you’ll look back having made leaps and bounds. Those giant strides can only come from the small steps you choose to make today.
Don’t let your future-self look back only to find that you haven’t progressed an inch and are still standing where you are now.
No matter how small, take FORWARD steps!
And a year from now, you’ll thank yourself because step 10, 000 could never have happened until you took that first step!
If you want to take big strides, start with one small step today.
