The Mechanics of Life

Whenever I feel like I'm getting too self-centred and losing focus on what's important in life, I often flick through my diary and read over a concept I had scribbled down back in January 2017 about life through the analogy of gears, wheels, and cars. Sounds very strange, I know.
It goes a bit like this…

~~~
The world doesn't revolve around you.
The world doesn't spin all because of you.
You are a single small tooth on a gear,
a spoke on a wheel,
a cog on a cogwheel,
amongst billions and trillions, all helping each other to keep turning, to keep rolling.
We must all keep pushing forwards. If one of us doesn't bother and leaves the workload on the shoulders of the rest, we all lose our momentum.
We're not moving just for you. We're moving for all of us.
Don't be the faulty gear!
Don't be the flat spot on the wheel!
Don't be the depleted engine!
We are all turning the wheels of a car that will take us to the destinations we are destined for! But it depends on what fuel you put into your engine. It depends on your drive, and your willingness to maintain a forward momentum on the bumpy road that is life.
The question is, 'what is the car?'
The metaphorical car is the result of our lives' hard work.
It is life.
It is our Today that will transport us into the land of Tomorrow.
But what is the meaning of all the fuel we are burning to keep the wheels of life turning?
Why must all the gears spin? What are we moving for?
What is our purpose?
The Gears of Life (actually, the gears of my can opener!)
There is no right or wrong answer as to what car we're fueling or what road we steer our car onto. The answer is different for everyone.
As we ride the paths to achieve our purpose, what is important to remember is that the everyday choices we make in life determine whether the wheels turn forwards or backwards; whether we accelerate or decelerate.
We must try and make good choices and learn from the rash choices.
The car of tomorrow is the design of our future. It will be driven by the next generation. All the gruelling hard work we are putting in now, all the fuel we are pumping our engines with today, is shaping the model that will be on the roads tomorrow.
Our purpose to mould the future for generations to come, and our passions to shape a brighter future, is what powers the car.
This car that achieves its thrust from all its engines, gears, and wheels working cohesively; from all of us functioning as one unit to build a better tomorrow.
What is your motivation to keep the car of life forwards-bound?
Is it to return the kindness of those who sacrifice their time for you?
Is it to accept each other's differences and embrace diversity?
Is it to spread God's love?
Is it to give a voice to the voiceless?
Is it to educate people and empower minds with new knowledge?
Is it to create poignant art that unites humans through shared emotion?
Is it to entertain and trigger pangs of joy, sadness, nostalgia, and love?
Is it to mend broken bodies or heal broken hearts?
Is it to lend a helping hand and provide guidance to those in need?
Is it to befriend the lonely and the lost?
Is it to take action where there is injustice or hate?
Is it to create unity and equality?
Is it to know that you could make a difference to just one person's life?
Find your purpose.
Find your 'why'.
Find what fuels your engine, because that is what powers your car.
Such is the mechanics of life.
